Memory Quilt from Baby Clothes - Part 5

D

Design

Most of my squares are ready, I need a few more that I will make on the go, now let's take a look at the design. I will use 9 patch blocks, mixing the plain and crazy squares. The final size of the quilt should be around 220 cm by 140 cm. One square is 10 cm by 10 cm, I work with 0.5 cm seam, so one finished square is 9 cm by 9 cm. Rounding the numbers my quilt is going to have 24 x 15 = 360 squares, that means 216 cm by 135 cm (roughly 85" by 53") plus the border and binding. This means that I have to create 40 pieces of 9 patch blocks. This will take a while...

Here are all my blocks ready to work with. I ordered them by colour to be able to have all colours spread evenly. What do you think?

  2. Your blocks look so pretty, all sorted by color. I will have to read your previous posts about this - my niece is expecting her first baby in September. I will have to keep this in mind for all the sweet baby clothes that they grow out of so quickly! ~smile~

  5. I love the idea of a memory quilt with your baby's clothes! I made a pillow out of one of my boy's favorite shirts because I did not want to get rid of it. Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday. Make sure to come back to share the finished product!
